Your route starts at Oldschool Hotel. National Landscape Winterswijk is a natural area in the Gelderse Achterhoek. You cycle through a semi-open coulisse landscape of lanes and meandering streams in narrow valleys. Here and there you see wooded banks and authentic Saxon farms. The route also takes you through a number of small forests. One of them is Bekendelle, an old deciduous forest with alders, ash trees and oaks. The Boven-Slinge meanders through Bekendelle, near this stream the kingfisher lives, among other things. The great yellow wagtail and the middle spotted woodpecker also live in this forest. You see Saxon farms and mansions, but also some beautiful old mills. Just outside Winterswijk you pass De Oliemolle, for example, a former double water mill on the course of the Boven-Slinge.
