Description
The picturesque Wilnis is part of the municipality of De Ronde Venen and is located in the'Green Heart\\\' of the Randstad. The village has existed since 1085 and you will find a peat mill from 1823.
In and around Kockengen you will find a lot of cultural history. For example, you will pass De Spengense Molen, a polder mill from 1841. Kockengen is an old reclamation village, part of which enjoys a protected village view. The name Kockengen comes from Cocagne, the French name for Cockaigne. Around the village you will see the so-called centuries-old cope landscape. In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, a cope was an agreement to be allowed to reclaim a plot of land. At that time, the plots were sold and furnished according to a fixed size.
Just above Woerden you drive through Kamerik. This town originated as a ribbon village along the Kamerikse Wetering, a twelfth-century waterway that was dug to develop this area. Along the waterway you see beautiful monumental buildings.
