Tour of Zaanstad from Oostzaan

This cycle route takes you through the Zaanstreek and Waterland: two regions where you will find beautiful polder landscapes, nature reserves and cultural history. You cycle through Zaandam and old ribbon villages such as Westzaan and Landsmeer. Westzaan, together with Oostzaan, is the oldest village in the Zaan region. Part of this picturesque town enjoys a protected village view. In the polder you can see De Windjager, the last remaining hobby mill in the Oostzijderveld. You drive past the Zaanse Schans, an impressive historic industrial landscape. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, this was the industrial area in Europe: nowhere else was there so much industry in such a small area. In and around the Zaanse Schans, the original streetscape has largely been preserved, it is a world-famous landmark.
