Tour of Leekster and Hoornsemeer and Groningen

Your route starts at Cnossen Leekstermeer. Around the Leekstermeer you drive through rugged low peat areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils. These are the Onlanden, with vast grasslands, but also groves and hedgerows. In Lettelbert you can view a small, squat church from the thirteenth century. You also cycle through the hamlet of Peizermade.'Made\\\' means meadow or grassland, i.e. the meadow near Peize. This used to be an extremely humid area that often flooded. You drive through the Stadspark into the city of Groningen, with the Groninger Museum. Make a stopover in pleasant Groningen and then cycle back via the Hoornsemeer, on the border between the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen. Together with the Paterswoldsemeer, it forms the Drents-Groningen lake area.
