Tour of Beerzerzand, Vecht and Hut Mariaborch

From here you walk across the Beerzerzand, on the edge of the Beerze Estate. At the southern edge of the area you will discover several meters of peat wells, with small dams in between. People from the area came here in the winter to cut peat for fuel. When the well filled up with water or the dam broke, the crossing was over. Next to the peat pits you can still see the sand piles from the covering sand layer that first had to be shoveled away. You will also see a wet heathland area. The sand no longer drifts here. The cover sand here creates an edge in the landscape a few meters high, where there are also peat wells. You walk back via the beautifully meandering Vecht and the Hut Mariaborch.
