St. Joostkapel

The cornerstone of society in ancient and modern times are the churches and more often the small chapels that you can observe all over the smallest hamlet. Small monuments with a rich history. The Sint-Joostkapel is the oldest chapel in Breda and was built around 1436. Between 1637 and 1945, the building served as a warehouse, stable, military prison and home, among other things.

On May 29, 1972, the municipality of Breda sold the castle for 1.4 million guilders, about 635,000 euros, to the water board, which some time afterwards was renamed the Water Board of West Brabant. In 1977 the castle underwent its last restoration.
