Tour of Loonse Drunense Duinen from Heusden

Your cycling route starts at Minicamping De Reekens. First you cycle through Heusden, a beautiful fortified town. In the polders near the Maas you pass the Fort Hedikhuizen from 1862. Further on you drive past the Haarsteegse Wiel, which was created in 1610 when a dike was breached. Via the Heidijk you drive through the Nieuwkuijkse Bosje, a former coppice forest. You cross the canal to Giersbergen. Time seems to have stood still a bit here, the hamlet consists almost entirely of thatched, long-fronted farmhouses. It is beautifully situated in the middle of nature. You can cycle straight into the Loonse and Drunense Dunes here. In this national park you will find extensive heathlands and quiet forests. And of course the famous drifting dunes to which this area owes its nickname: the Brabant Sahara.
