Tour of Bergen, Schoorl and Egmond from Castricum

At Bike Totaal Kruijswijk Tweewielers you can get on your bike for a tour of Bergen, Schoorl and Egmond aan Zee from Castricum. Via Egmond aan Zee you drive through a vast polder landscape of meadows and ditches. Then you cycle into the Schoorlse Duinen. The dunes are among the widest and highest in the Netherlands. The forest was created in the nineteenth century because the residents of nearby Schoorl wanted to prevent their village from disappearing under the drifting sand. In lovely Schoorl you can then have a cup of coffee at one of the terraces at the bottom of the Klimduin. A little later you cycle past the Bergerbos with its beautiful old deciduous trees and avenues. In the artists' village of Bergen you will see some stately old buildings. You cycle back via Alkmaar.
