Castles route Roermond and Brüggen

You'll cycle out of Roermond via De Thooren Castle. This route takes you through the beautiful nature of the (partly car-free!) Maas-Schwalm-Nette border park. After a stop at De Witte Stein, you'll enter the Brachter Wald forest. Until the mid-1990s, the British Army operated the largest ammunition depot in Western Europe in this area. After the military left, it became a protected nature reserve. You'll cycle through heathlands and pine forests. The area is closed to motorized traffic, making it a unique cycling experience – also thanks to the still-recognizable former depots. In Germany, you'll discover the town of Brüggen with its beautiful castle. You'll cycle back past Dilborn Castle, through the Swalm valley. Along the way, you'll pass Zuidewijk, a castle farm dating back to the 17th century.
