Castle route Roermond and Brüggen

You cycle out of Roermond via Kasteel De Thooren. This route takes you through the beautiful nature of the (partly car-free!) border park Maas-Schwalm-Nette. After a stopover at De Witte Stein you enter the Brachter Wald. Until the mid-1990s, the British Army operated the largest ammunition depot in Western Europe in this area. After the soldiers left, it became a protected nature reserve. You cycle through heaths and pine forests. The area is forbidden to motorized traffic, so that you will experience a unique cycling experience here - also because of the still recognizable former depots. In Germany you will discover the town of Brüggen with its beautiful castle. You cycle back past Schloss Dilborn, through the valley of the Swalm. Along the way you will pass Zuidewijk, a castle farm from the seventeenth century.
