Valkenburg,
Limburg,
The Netherlands
Hiking route:
2054238
Provided by: Groots Genieten
You first walk through Ingendael: a wonderfully quiet nature reserve with flower-rich grasslands through which the Geul meanders. Here you pass the Sint Gerlach castle, which was built as a monastery in the twelfth century. It was not until the nineteenth century that the monastery was converted into a castle. In Valkenburg you can enjoy the unique atmosphere while walking. You will see many beautiful buildings, such as the fourteenth-century Grendelpoort and of course the ruins of Valkenburg Castle. You can climb this beautiful ruin for a magnificent view. You walk straight through the forest back to your starting point. The footpath leads you through the forest edge along the Geul, what beautiful views!
