Tour of Schoorl and Westfriese Zeedijk

Your route starts at Pannenkoekenrestaurant Buiten. You drive to cozy Schoorl via the West Frisian Zeedijk or Omringdijk: the only monumental dike in the world. Then you dive into the wide dune strip of the Schoorlse Duinen. A century ago this was still a large sandbox, now you see open drifting dunes, wet plains, dense forests and heathlands. In June and July, the many thousands of pine orchids bloom and form a white carpet. Then you drive a bit along the Hondsbossche Zeewering. In Petten you can visit the Coast Information Center, with the interactive exhibition'Sand against Sea\\\'. Here you can see, hear and experience how the coast between Petten and Camperduin has been reinforced with a lot of sand: about 35 million cubic meters!
