Description

This walk takes you through the woods and heaths of Boswachterij Kootwijk. It is wonderfully quiet here, so you can clear your head for a while. The area is best known for the Kootwijkerzand, one of the largest drifting sand areas in Western Europe. It is sometimes necessary to bite through the loose sand, but a walk on shifting sand always produces special pictures. Especially with all those whimsical flying pines that grow on the Kootwijkerzand. The shaggy maidenhair is one of the unique plants that has adapted to the harsh conditions of this mini-Sahara. In autumn and winter it colors beautifully, in early spring it forms a flowering red carpet. Along the way you will also pass the Radioweg, a reference to the former radio station Radio Kootwijk nearby.
