Tour of Maasplassen: Leudal and Roermond from Wessem

After a cup of coffee at Grand Café - Maasterras't Veerhuis in Wessem, you get on your bike. Then you enjoy the natural beauty of the Beegder Heide. Don't fall off your bike when you see Horn Castle: it is one of the oldest, still intact ring wall castles in the Netherlands! Then you drive into the Het Leudal nature reserve. The Leudal is intersected by the meandering Tungelroyse Beek, locally called the Leubeek. You will find a variety of wet and dry forests. In Haelen you will pass the beautiful Aldenghoor Castle. This castle dates from the Middle Ages. You cycle back to your starting point via the lovely Roermond and the Maasplassen. In the Linnerweerd, one of the natural floodplains of the Maas, you can still see an eighteenth-century country house: Ravensberg.
