Tour of Zuidkamp and Hof Espelo from Lonneker

West of Lonneker you walk through the former Zuidkamp army camp, which was built by the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. From the air, Zuidkamp just seemed to be part of the Twente landscape. However, from the ground you can see that the buildings do not look typically Twente, but were designed according to National Socialist principles. Then you walk past Hof Espelo where there is a visitor center. At the intersection of Braakweg and Zuidkamp you pass two monumental buildings. At number 140 you will see the oldest building: a coach house from 1884. This was built on behalf of Tattersall & Holdsworth Machinefabrieken en Magazijnen de Globe. De Braak farm is across the road. This originally simple farmhouse got its current appearance in 1938.
