Ommen, Overijssel, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 200644
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The route starts at the parking lot on the Lemelerberg. The extensive information boards give you a good idea of the area. Right at the start of the route, serious cycling is already required: winding single tracks, short and long descents, technical passages and hefty climbs alternate. About halfway through the route you cycle on somewhat wider paths. Part of the route runs simultaneously with a bridleway. Because the riders have to keep to the left here (according to the signage), it is useful that the mountain bikers stay to the right. The width of the path contributes to the fact that this will not cause any problems. This is followed by a single track along the meadows and then climbing again. Here too a part that runs together with a walking route. So pay attention. Then the route becomes a real mountain bike route again. Near parking"Dalmsholte\\\" is the climb to"Dikke Steen\\\". A tough climb! Via winding paths, the Kerkweg (road that runs over the Lemelerberg) must be crossed twice in the next stretch. It can be very busy here, especially in the summer. So watch out! At the end you will be treated to a steep climb to get back to the parking lot. It is a very nice and well marked mountain bike route. The route is well signposted, consists entirely of unpaved paths, has tough climbs and nice descents.
The unforgettable smell of forest and heathland is the first thing you notice in the vicinity of the Lemelerberg. In the more than 850 hectare nature reserve - which consists of the Archemerberg and the Lemelerberg, Park 1813, the Zand and parts of the Archem estate - it is therefore always a pleasure. The origins of the mountainous nature reserve go way back in time, in the penultimate ice age to be precise. More than 150,000 years before Christ, metre-thick glaciers made their way through Scandinavia? a way to the south. Sand and gravel were pushed forward by the glaciers with unprecedented force. To the east and west of today's Lemelerberg, tongues of ice slowly crept up. The glaciers pushed aside the frozen ground like giant bulldozers. In this way, high moraines arose in the landscape, created by tilted soil layers, including the Lemelerberg. The route was realized by Landscape Overijssel in collaboration with Wielerclub Lemelerveld.
