Description
The cycle route shows the newly constructed Oldambtmeer in all its facets. The Oldambtmeer is approximately 800 hectares in size, the same size as the Sneekermeer. It was built as part of the Blauwestad project on the spot where the Huningameer was located until 1848.
On May 12, 2004, the construction of the lake and Blauwestad started. On May 12, 2005, an important step in the creation of the Oldambtmeer took place. Queen Beatrix turned on the tap, allowing the lake to fill up. In the summer of 2006 the lake reached the desired level of 0.45 m -NAP.
