This route takes you through the area of the Society of Benevolence, an organization that manages agricultural and forest land with farms. Along the way you can visit different farms to buy the tastiest regional products.
Cycling through old agricultural colonies
The starting point of this route is in the area between Vledderveen and Doldersum. From here you cycle through various small villages, quiet agricultural areas of the Society of Benevolence and green nature reserves. The Society of Benevolence was founded by General Johannes van den Bosch to combat poverty by enabling people to build their own lives as farmers. In the former municipality of Vledder, the 532-hectare Landgoed Westerbeeksloot was purchased for this purpose. The wild lands around it were reclaimed and agricultural colonies with farms were founded. This is how the villages of Wilhelminaoord and Frederiksoord were created, which you cycle through.

The Havelterberg
The Havelterberg is a moraine that originated in the Ice Age of 250,000-130,000 years ago. Today, the Drenthe part of the Havelterberg is partly a forest and nature reserve and partly a military training area. The area consists of shifting sand, wet and dry heathland and planted forests. That people have already lived there in early years is evidenced by the two megalithic tombs, the many burial mounds and the presence of a Celtic Field.
