Description

Havezate De Klencke
Havezate De Klencke (one of the 7 remaining Drenthe havezates) and estate are owned by Natuurmonumenten and consist of the originally 13th century moated havezate, a number of farms and the 450-hectare estate with cultivated land, forest and heathland. The current house was built in 1760. The water, Drostendiep, along De Klencke supplies the canals of the house with water.

Coevorden
Coevorden originated around 1150 at a ford in a river. A castle was soon built in Coevorden to defend one of the few entrances to Drenthe from the south. The castle is one of the two castles that Drenthe was rich and that still exists.
In addition to the Castle, well-known sights are parts of the inner and outer city canals with restored bastions, the Arsenaal (1643) with museum, the Reformed Kruiskerk (1645), the 322-meter high water tower and the statues of the 3 Podagristen (see Zweeloo). in front of the Castle and the Ganzenhoedster on the Markt.

Dalen village
Dalen originated in the Middle Ages along the old road from Coevorden to Groningen. The church tower and the church bell date from the 15th, resp. 17th century. The church itself was built on old foundations in 1824. You will also find a number of old farms and two windmills. The route takes you past'De Bente\\\' windmill from 1814.

Ghost
Gees was founded around 1210 and until about 1860 Gees was the most important village in the region. Oosterhesselen then took over from Gees. Gees is mainly known for its old farms and has the largest boulder in the Netherlands (35 tons, 2.30 m high, 3.90 m long and 2.75 m wide). Precisely because Gees lost its function as the capital of Oosterhesselen in the last century, the village has been well preserved. Of the old farms, 12 are listed as monuments and there are dozens of barns and sheepfolds that are worth preserving.

Oosterhesselen

Oosterhesselen originated in the same time as Gees. Striking in the village is the church with separate church tower and dates from the 15th century. In the church is the family coat of arms of the Van In- and Kniphausen family; owners of De Klencke. Partly thanks to them, Oosterhesselen became more important than Gees.
The intersection of the Hoogeveen-New-Amsterdam and Coevorden-Assen tramways earned the village the nickname of'Klein-Utrecht\\\'.

Aalden

Aalden probably originated around 1350 between the Westerstroom and the Aalderstroom on the east side on a sand hump. The oldest farms can be found on the south side of the village. The most famous farm is the'Hoes van Hol An\\\' from 1688. Opposite is the Brink with the old sheepfold and old weighing house.

Zweeloo

Zweeloo and Aalden form a double village with the Aelderstroom in between. Zweeloo originated around 1300. The beautiful reformed church outside the village dates from the second half of the 13th century. One of the most famous preachers was AL Lesturgeon, one of the three Podagrists. He is buried in the old cemetery. The Podagristen: pseudonym for Messrs. DH Hemsing van der Scheer, H. Boom and AL Lesturgeon. They described their journey as Podagrist (leaders of foot gout) between and around Drenthe and Bad Bentheim. In 1952, the grave of the Princess of Zweeloo was found near the church. The clothing and jewelry of the found woman can be seen in the Drents Museum. Near the church is the oldest part of Zweeloo with beautiful old farms.
