Description
Noardeast-Fryslan is easy to explore by bike. You cycle through a vast landscape of grasslands, waterways and reed beds. Ideal for a day of downsizing. Along the dike you cycle to Moddergat, which enjoys a protected village view. At Oere 36 in Moddergat there is still a penitentiary: an outbuilding where fishermen used to store their nets. You can also view the Fishermen's Monument on the dike. From here you have a beautiful view of the Wadden Sea and the salt marsh landscape of the Peazemerlannen. Along your route there are also several centuries-old churches that stand on mounds, such as in Wierum and Aalsum. You cycle a bit through Dokkum, via Oostrum and Ee you cycle back to Anjum.
