Description

From here you will discover the Weerribben, part of the De Weerribben-De Wieden national park. The area consists of open water, reed lands and swamp forests that cover no less than 35 square kilometers. Part of the Weerribben is used for reed cultivation, in these places you will see acid-loving trees such as alder, rowan and birch. You will also see special windmills there. Tjaskermolen Ossenzijl/Kalenberg built in 1977 is located in an open area, perfect for photos. The other mill in Kalenberg is the De Wicher spider mill, built in 1982. Since small spider mills are no longer common in the Netherlands, this is definitely a mill you should take a look at. You also walk through Kalenberg, a sailing village that was only accessible by boat until the late 1950s.
