Eersel - North Brabant - The Netherlands
Cycling route 197816

In North Brabant you can easily drive kilometers through nature without a city on your route. This tour takes you through the southeast of this green province. Spinning the pedals for a day in a natural and rural area where you can at most pass picturesque hamlets. In short, a wonderful day out.
A large part of the route you drive through Boswachterij De Kempen, near the border with Belgium. The inhabited world seems far away here. The route takes you through endless forests dominated by coniferous trees. Sometimes there are tufts of heather or fields, sometimes you suddenly feel a bit of cooling on your cheeks or arms from a brook that flows near the cycle path. An unprecedented oasis in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And a landscape with a rich history. Peddlers used to travel from market to market on the sandy paths, simply with their merchandise in a basket on their backs. After dark, smugglers took over with illegal goods.
This vast forest area extends into Belgium, just like your route. You drive through the woods of Postel Abbey to the green banks of the Kwaadmechelen-Schoten Canal. This canal was excavated with a shovel in the mid-nineteenth century in fifteen years. As a result, the arid Kempen soil around the canal became somewhat moist, so that you can enjoy the many plant and tree species while cycling. At the junction of waterways, continue the route along the Bocholt-Herentals canal. You drive in this green zone through the Verkallenbos and along the Blekerheide.
Back in the Netherlands you dive into the coniferous forests under Luyksgestel. Further on, the soil becomes a bit more moist due to the presence of streams like the Run and the AA. In this brook landscape you see hedgerows, heather fields and pools. And of course some authentic Kempen long gable farms.
