Canada Lake Tour from Zorgvlied

After a cup of coffee at Park Drentheland, you put on your walking shoes. The campsite is located on the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, so you can walk straight in. You will see native species such as oak and Scots pine, but also exotic trees such as Douglas fir and Japanese larch. You walk through the forest to the Aeckingermeer, or Canadameer. A beautiful spot in nature, where you can also swim. The Canadameer was dug in the 1960s as a sand extraction location. The water quality is exceptionally good, because it is fed by groundwater. As a result, special plants grow there. Because of the swimmers, there is little sediment on the banks and the bankweed benefits from this. You walk back through the Drenthe village of Zorgvlied.
