Tour of Albrandswaard starts at the TOP Rhoonse Grienden.
You can enjoy walking and cycling from TOP Rhoonse Grienden to enjoy the beautiful natural beauty in the outer dyke Grienden near the Oude Maas and the open polder landscape with water-rich nature reserves. And by bike you can combine your visit to this area with a visit to places of interest, such as Rhoon Castle.
The town of Rhoon (municipality of Albrandswaard) is located on the island of IJsselmonde. The island originated in the thirteenth century and is enclosed by the rivers Nieuwe and Oude Maas and the Noord. The island owes its name to the former dike village opposite the mouth of the Hollandse IJssel. Urbanization has taken place on the north side of the island of IJsselmonde - under the smoke of Rotterdam - while to the south the landscape is characterized by still relatively open polders with a water-rich nature reserve and creeks landscape. The Johannapolder - near the TOP - is a polder where you can actively enjoy recreation (walking, cycling, climbing, golfing).
Tip 1: Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden
The Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden form an elongated nature reserve along the Oude Maas. Pilot whales are moist fields on which willow wood is grown. In the past, the twigs were used for baskets and zinc pieces. The Rhoonse and Carnisse pilot whales are located outside the dikes and are therefore under the influence of ebb and flow. The area therefore has a special flora and fauna.

Tip 2: Rhoon Castle
Biggo van Duyvelant had a castle built that was destroyed during the Sint-Elisabeth flood of 1421. The current Kasteel van Rhoon was built on the same spot. The castle is surrounded by an English garden, a Baroque garden and the Kasteelbos. The castle is now used as a catering location.

Sheep and suckler cows roam the meadows in the summer. Wild flowers and herbs grow in the field. After your walk you can visit the tearoom and the farm shop.
