This walk is about 7 km long and not suitable for prams and wheelchairs.
You can easily park your car behind the
Dorpshuis in Ugchelen . There you can also enjoy a delicious cup of coffee during opening hours before you start the walk. This can be done outside on the terrace if the weather permits, otherwise inside in the cozy Village Room.
The walk takes you past sprengen and the Hamermolen, which was powered by the water from the sprengen. Often the spreng had to be trained, that is, the water level was raised above the surrounding ground level. Such a trained spreng can be clearly seen in the area between the Hamermolen and the Kerkenpad. The papermakers and launderers have maintained the sprengen well in the past. Although this was initially out of self-interest, they have left behind a unique sprengen area in and around Ugchelen.
You will also come to the Salamandergat. Surface water is scarce on the high sandy soils of the Veluwe. Here and there, however, heathland fens are present in lower places. Rainwater such a fen cannot sink through an impenetrable, iron-containing'primeval layer\\\' in the soil. This fen bears the name Salamandergat because there are many salamanders in the fen.
A more detailed description of the places of interest and a route description can be found on the
