At the highest point of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug you will pass the Pyramid of Austerlitz, built in the nineteenth century by a French general as a tribute to Napoléon Bonaparte. Austerlitz was a place in the Czech Republic, where Napoleon won an important battle in 1805. After the First World War, German Emperor Wilhelm II fled to the Netherlands, where he lived in Huis Doorn. The beautiful house is now a museum where you can get an idea of his imperial way of life. You drive back via the many estates for which the Utrechtse Heuvelrug is known, such as Beverweerd Castle from the 13th century. Just before returning you will discover the lovely villages of Huis ter Heide and Bosch en Duin.
