Description

Your cycling route starts at Hotel Epping. IJsselstein owes its name to the Dutch IJssel and originated as a settlement near IJsselstein Castle. The contours have remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages and the regular street pattern also dates from the Middle Ages. From here you cycle to Huis Harmelen, a former castle and a knight's court town near the nice old Harmelen. De Haar Castle is the highlight of this route, it is the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. You will also cycle past Den Ham, the largest medieval residential tower in our country. The tower measures 27 meters! In Vleuten you cycle through the Maxima Park, long ago the location of a Roman army camp.
