Historic tour of Lemelerveld

Your route starts after an overnight stay at Charme Camping Heidepark. Today you will take a walk through Lemelerveld, a village that was founded in 1854 by a manufacturer who set up the Overijsselse Beetroot Sugar Factory because of its location on the Overijssels canal: this allowed sugar beets to be delivered. You first walk past Villa Rosa, an executive residence of the sugar factory. The steam beet root sugar factory stood on the spot where you now find the Bridge Church. The factory was in full operation until 1917. Most houses were built during that period, for workers. The Hofje van Buisman is named after Piet Buisman, the religious teacher at the turn of the century. The reformed church from 1906 is now used as an exhibition space. Along the canal you walk along a restored towpath back to your starting point.
