Description

Your route starts after an overnight stay at Charme Camping Heidepark. Today you take a walk through Lemelerveld, a village that was founded in 1854 by a manufacturer who set up the Overijssel Beetroot Sugar Factory because of its location on the Overijssels canal: this way sugar beets could be supplied. You first walk past Villa Rosa, an executive residence of the sugar factory. The steam beetroot sugar factory stood on the spot where you now find the Brugkerk. The factory was in full operation until 1917. Most houses were built in that period, for workers. The Hofje van Buisman is named after Piet Buisman, the religious teacher at the turn of the century. The reformed church from 1906 is now used as an exhibition space. Along the canal you walk along a piece of restored towpath back to your starting point.
