Tour of Wijk near Duurstede along the Lek

Your walking route starts at't VeerHuys. The important trading town of Dorestad used to be on the site of Wijk bij Duurstede. Romans, Vikings and bishops left their mark on this town. The restored castle ruins of Duurstede Castle show this wealth with its square keep from 1270 and Burgundian tower. This route leads you through the beautiful Kasteelpark on the way there and back. The historic city center has numerous monuments, such as the Grote Kerk and the old Town Hall on the Markt. Have a nice lunch at OTTO and then walk back over the Lekdijk West, past Steenfabriek Bosscherwaarden. Around 1900 there were 15 brick factories here in the region. It was founded in 1923. It is a protected national monument with its characteristic chimney.
