Mill route St. Jansklooster and visitor center De Wieden

This walking route starts at Cafe Restaurant Wapen van Utrecht, in St. Jansklooster near the Beulakerwijde, the largest lake in the Kop van Overijssel. It was created by storm surge disasters in 1775, 1776 and 1825. Be sure to visit the De Wieden Visitor Center, on a picturesque street with historic peat workers' houses in Sint Jansklooster. The exhibition and video tell you everything about the protected area, its flora and fauna. Mill De Foeke dominates the area. This paaltjasker was specially built in 1968 to enhance the visitor center. You also take a tour of the Monnikenmolen, built in 1857. This mill is covered with reeds and stands on a stone base. Grain is milled on a voluntary basis.
