Mill route St. Jansklooster and visitor centre De Wieden

This walking route starts at Cafe Restaurant Wapen van Utrecht, in St. Jansklooster at the Beulakerwijde, the largest lake in the Kop van Overijssel. It was created by storm surge disasters in 1775, 1776 and 1825. Be sure to stop by the Visitors' Centre de Wieden, on a picturesque street with historic peat workers' houses in Sint Jansklooster. The exhibition and video tell you all about the protected area, the flora and fauna. The De Foeke mill dominates the area. This paaltjasker was specially built in 1968 to enhance the visitors' centre. You will also take a tour of the Monnikenmolen, built in 1857. This tower mill is thatched and stands on a stone base. It is used to grind grain on a voluntary basis.
