Tour of Zwolle: cycling along the water

In the Middle Ages, the Hanseatic city of Zwolle arose along the Aa, on a higher cover sand ridge in an area that was otherwise very swampy. The height differences are still noticeable in the Overijssel capital. You will pass through the Westerveldse bos, a young nature reserve on the banks of the Zwarte Water. After a break at Restaurant Zalen De Mol in Wijthmen, you cycle through the Engels Werk, a large city park that was built around 1830 on former fortifications. It is decorated in the romantic English landscape style. In addition to green, you will also see a lot of blue on this route: after all, Zwolle is located at a crossroads of waterways! Creek ridges, river dunes, gullies, mounds, sandbanks... The IJsseldelta is a National Landscape. Here you can see the typical Dutch polder landscape at its best.
