Explore the nature and town of Bree

Bree itself is also more than worth a visit. The town is not called the Pearl of the Kempen for nothing. It is one of the most beautiful towns in this region. In the cozy center you will see various ancient buildings. The old town hall on the Markt dates from the sixteenth century, the facade was rebuilt in 1755 in Louis XIV style. The Michielshuis is also located on the Markt. The core of this house dates from the sixteenth century, although the building was renovated a number of times after that. In 1743 the house was inhabited by the then mayor of Bree, Jan Michiels.

You enter the Dunes Belt through the village of Opitter. This varied and extensive heath, forest and dune landscape is about 3000 hectares in size and includes the Solterheide and the Gruiterbos. In the Solterheide you mainly see coniferous forests, but also fields, hedgerows and chestnut avenues. In the adjacent Gruitroderbos you mainly cycle through fresh-scented pine forests, although the original heath and shifting sand areas have remained intact in a few places.
