The Keukenhof Flower Route
The Keukenhof Flower Route starts at TOP Lisse, at the former station. This is now furnished as a restaurant. In the spring - from the end of March to the end of May - you can visit the Keukenhof and see the tulips, crocuses and daffodils in full bloom on the bulb fields between Lisse and Noordwijkerhout. All year round you can enjoy the polder landscape, forests and extensive dunes on the coast in the region around the village of Lisse.
The bulb fields with their straight ditches and high dune roads alternate with green avenues and old estates. In the spring, the plots form a beautiful colorful patchwork. In addition to the many bulb fields, the varied landscape, the canals and ditches, the monuments and the charming villages make the route a true experience.
In addition to the Keukenhof flower exhibition and the bulb fields, the estate with Keukenhof castle is also worth a visit. The castle was built as a residence by a commander of the Dutch East India Company in 1640. Later, around 1860, it was converted into a neo-Gothic castle with different types of towers. Furniture from all kinds of years and style periods can be found in the various salons. The beautiful interior, which has been preserved in its entirety, shows how the nobility used to live.
