Schotten, Hesse, Germany
Hiking route: 187470
Provided by: Hessen
This tour takes the walker past numerous sights that are relatively close to each other. On his way, the hiker crosses the Taufstein, a mountain of basalt blocks in the Vogelsberg massif and the Geiselstein, which is covered with maples, beeches and ferns, and sees the source and the first meters of the Nidda. This hiking trail is the oldest and most popular hiking trail in the Oberwald, the core area of the Vogelsberg.
For the Höhenrundweg, the hiker does not need to be in a really strong condition. Yet the route is very varied with an original landscape, high moor plains with beautiful views, basalt hills and trout ponds. With a length of eight km and good signposting with the green H, it is also very suitable for families with children.
On the Hoherodskopf we can make a stopover and let off steam on the summer toboggan run or in the climbing forest. A second stopover is possible on the Taufstein. There we can climb the 28 meter high Bismarck Tower, where in clear weather we can enjoy the expansive view of the adjacent low mountain range.
You can use something in the Taufsteinhütte at the beginning or end of the approx. 2.5-hour hike.
