The GrünGürtel-Wanderweg has long been very popular in Frankfurt. Its uniqueness and quality have now even been recognized by a jury: in 2014, the route was voted the best metropolitan hiking route in Germany.
The approx. 64 km long GrünGürtelWanderweg is perfect for a walking route that is so close to a city and is also extremely fascinating. The hiker discovers varied landscapes with meadows, vineyards, meadows with fruit trees, river basins, sand dunes and dense forests. Impressive are also the places along the route where nature has freed itself from the former shackles of civilization, such as the former airfield and the Nidda behind the Höchster dam.
Over 63.6 kilometres, the route takes the walker through the greenery around the center of Frankfurt. Much of the route is on natural paths; only a third part is paved. You can choose your own stages and the route is easily accessible by public transport. You only see that in Frankfurt: along the route are 13 works of comic art that make the walker laugh, for example by Robert Gernhardt, Hans Traxler or FK Waechter, all artists of the Neue Frankfurter Schule. Those who wish can have themselves photographed at the ICH monument, pet the GrünGürtel animal or be frightened by the
