Over a length of 1,230 km, the Rhine flows through the four countries of Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The EuroVelo Route 15 constantly accompanies the river, from the source of the Rhine near Andermatt in the Swiss Alps to Hoek van Holland where it flows into the North Sea. In the upper part, the cycle route crosses the valleys of the Swiss Alps. It then leads past Lake Constance and the spectacular Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen to the border triangle near Basel. Then the EuroVelo Route 15 goes through Alsace, or on the German bank through the large German wine-growing areas and various protected natural areas. In the romantic Middle Rhine Valley, the route leads along the Lorelei, before the river finally leaves the low mountain range and reaches the major metropolises of western Germany. Further downstream in the Netherlands, the idyllic Nederrijn then branches into an impressive delta. Via the Rheinradweg, cyclists can also follow the river in this section to its mouth in Hoek van Holland.
