Sightseeing at Lelystad

The reclamation of Flevoland not only created new agricultural land and nature: new residential areas also emerged, such as Lelystad. This route takes you through this young city and its natural surroundings.

Lelystad Nature Park
The route starts with Natuurpark Lelystad, which was created in the 1970s as a recreational area for the residents of Lelystad. You can admire a reconstructed prehistoric settlement and a shipwreck from the 19th century. Hundreds of these types of wrecks are hidden underground across Flevoland: ships that once proudly sailed across the Zuiderzee.

Dutch Wood
You drive along the edge of the Hollandse Hout, a relatively young and varied forest west of Lelystad. Further on, stop at Nieuw Land, where you can learn all about this largest polder in the world. The Bataviawerf is also definitely worth a visit, where the focus is on historical wooden shipbuilding. Here you can admire a replica of the Batavia, the famous seventeenth-century merchant ship. The warship the Zeven Provinciën is also being rebuilt here.
