Description

You first drive through Renesse, an ancient ring village around the sixteenth-century Jacobuskerk. You will see various monumental buildings, such as't Huys Grol. The history of this former country estate dates back to 1599, the current building dates from the eighteenth century. Just past the village of Ellemeet you pass Molen't Hert, a flour mill from 1748. On top of this mill is a windbar in the shape of a deer, hence the name. The last part of the route leads you through the woods and dunes around Slot Haamstede, a national monument from the thirteenth century. In 1525 the castle was almost completely destroyed by a fire, after which the castle was rebuilt. It is now owned by Natuurmonumenten.
