Description
Explore the cycling charm of Walcheren and get to know the Oranjezon nature reserve. Dunes, dune grasslands, shrubs, deciduous forest and coniferous forest cover an area of 400 hectares. Nature is given free rein here and the trees that were cut down by the Germans during WWII have been given whimsical, bizarre shapes. Dense shrubs, water and forests have a rich flora and fauna. Those who are lucky and keep quiet might even see fallow deer! Birds like to breed there and in the more open (dune) landscapes special plants such as the orchid and the parnassia flourish.
From'parking lot center\\\' you cycle to windmill De Hoop (hull/remainder) and cycle to the first point of interest of the tour. In Sint Laurens you pass the former windmill De Hoop (hull/remainder) from 1721. The mill caught fire in 1943 because the catch had overheated. Since then, only the hull is still standing. As much of the inventory is still intact, there are serious plans to restore the mill.
Buitenplaats Duinbeek then presents itself. The history of this imposing estate dates back to before 1350. The house is privately inhabited, but it is clearly visible from the public road.
