Description

In the Rijk van Nijmegen you can walk on one of the most beautiful hiking routes in the Netherlands: the N70. The path leads you along streams and over the wooded slopes of eight hills. You can walk here in the shade under the canopy of deciduous trees. You will see, among other things, the sweet chestnut, a southern European species that was probably introduced here by the Romans. Every now and then you have beautiful vistas over the Wijlermeer and the Ooijpolder. You slow down almost unnoticed to take in this natural beauty. You will also pass the remains of the medieval motte-and-bailey castle of Mergelp. In between you will pass through Beek, where you will see some beautiful old buildings. Afterwards, you can recharge your batteries at pancake house De Duivelsberg with a delicious meal.
