Description
Start at the church of Riel, with a café across the street.........D\\\'n Overkant!
This is a very nice walk. Ten kilometers through the Oude Leijdal, the former river valley of the Maas! That is why the farmers plow up so many stones. It is not without reason that Riel is called Kraaigat during Carnival time.
Continue across the Regte Heide with its prehistoric burial mounds. Then via the wide stream valley through the forests back to Riel. Café D\\\'n Overkant is waiting for you!
On the way (when you cross the bridge over the Oude Leij at the Riels Hoefke) you pass the place where the Commandery of the Templars once stood. These knights protected the pilgrims on their journey to the Promised Land. Have fun! Advice: print out the map so that you can see how to walk between junctions 26 and 25.
