Tour of Renesse, Oosterschelde and Westenschouwen

From Renesse you drive through Schelpenhoek, a creek area that emerged from one of the largest dike breaches during the flood disaster. The creek and forests are rich in bird life, more than sixty species such as nightingales, great spotted woodpeckers and owls breed here. Depending on the season, you will also find thousands of shorebirds along the coast of the Oosterschelde. Nature is given plenty of space here again, so that the birds benefit from the wet and salty landscape. A little later you drive into Boswachterij Westerschouwen, the largest forest in Zeeland. The old village of Burgh grew up around a ring wall that was erected at the end of the ninth century against raiding Normans. You can stop here and enjoy a well-deserved break at Grand Hotel Ter Duin.
