Description

It is well known that the Noordoostpolder has fertile soil. But there is more to the seabed. A large part of the history of the Noordoostpolder lies in the bottom of the sea. For example, many ships have been lost and hidden. With the lost ship route you can experience that the Noordoostpolder is a reclaimed area. The wreckage posts indicate where ships have sunk in the past. Some of those ships are still buried in the ground. The route starts at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Schokland. From there you cycle around the former island. During the cycling route you can experience the difference in height between Schokland and the surrounding area and see that Schokland used to be an island.
