National Cycle Route 'The Evacuee'

The Evacue is a multi-day 'pilgrimage' in memory of the hunger marches and the necessary shelter of thousands of evacuees in Friesland during the Hunger Winter in the Second World War. Many people from the Randstad dared to travel to the north and east of the Netherlands and found salvation there, including in Friesland. Among them were the child evacuees. With 'The Evacue' we want to offer you the opportunity to undertake and experience a 'pilgrimage' that contributes to the realization that 'sufficient food' and 'freedom' are not self-evident and cannot be bought for anything!
