Enjoy the heart of Amsterdam

This route takes you through the heart of Amsterdam, across the Canal Belt and through neighborhoods such as the stately Old South, the Museum Quarter and the Pijp. A short route, but you will need the time to take a good look at all the sights. After the Canal Belt you will soon find the Vondelpark. A cozy park that you can hardly imagine was still a peat meadow area in the nineteenth century. In 1865 the first part of the park, laid out in English landscape style, was opened. As early as 1893, people were allowed to cycle through the park, albeit initially only in the morning hours. Because it was a private park, bicycles without lights could not be fined. Now, when the weather is nice, many people lie in the park sunbathing, reading or chatting with each other. It's hard not to get the holiday jitters in this park. Just like almost every Amsterdam neighborhood that is located around the center, the Diamantbuurt is also rich in historic buildings. At the beginning of Diamantstraat, on the corner with Jozef Israelskade, is the house where writer Gerard Reve lived in his youth. At the end you drive past the monumental building of Diamantslijperij Asscher. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Cullinan was cut here, the largest rough diamond ever found. The Cullinan's diamonds are set in the British Crown Jewels. The route starts and ends at Mikes Bike in the heart of Amsterdam. Ideal if you want to come by train, because you can rent different types of bicycles here.
