Twiske route

This route to the Twiske is not one without risks. Here you cycle through a recreational area that offers temptation on all sides. Beaches, endless playing fields and a wonderful lake for swimming and boating. Then try to stay firmly in the saddle... Fortunately, the Twiske also offers overwhelming and varied nature that certainly provides the necessary distraction during the 39 kilometers that you have to pedal: beautiful meadows, flowery meadows, marshlands, wooded areas. and wide reed collars. You start this route behind Central Station in Amsterdam where you first go sailing for a while. From the Buiksloterweg ferry to Amsterdam-Noord you have a beautiful view of the Eye film institute and the cozy Tolhuistuin, which opened its doors in September 2014. On the other side, the landscape becomes quite green after just fifteen minutes of cycling and once past Landsmeer you imagine yourself in a nature reserve that is unparalleled. You have a great view from the dike that literally embraces the Twiske. The Twiske itself is an old peat meadow area that was drained in the 1940s and 1950s and to this day has its own (particularly clean!) water system. The Stootersplas in the middle was created when twelve million cubic meters of sand had to be extracted for the construction of the Coentunnel.
