Past the fortified town and polder villages

A large part of this route follows the winding river Giessen. And there's never a dull moment! Because unlike some roads in the polder that cut straight through the land from A to B, this road follows the natural course of the peat river. The Beneden Merwede is much wider, which flows past Hardinxveld-Giessendam. The fortified city of Gorinchem is the start and end point of this route. Not for nothing, because the center is not only very pleasant, but there is also a lot of monumental beauty to see. Looking out over the water (on the other side are Woudrichem and Slot Loevestein) at Buiten de Waterpoort, taking a walk on the restored ramparts or enjoying a terrace on the Grote Markt are not to be missed when visiting Gorinchem.
