Country houses and old-fashioned fruit growing
Near the village of Valburg you cycle a bit across the centuries-old De Mellard estate. The country house on the site is built on a sand embankment that, according to legend, was created when three giants dug out the Rhine and Waal. Just above Nijmegen you cross the Waal to a dike that meanders through the polder. A little further along the route you will find the Historical Garden Lent. Fruit and vegetables are still grown here as they used to be.
