Schiermonnikoog is a wonderful destination to explore on foot. You can enjoy beautiful nature here. Furthermore, it is wonderfully quiet on this car-free island. With a few hours of brisk walking you can explore the whole of Schiermonnikoog, starting with this tour.

Into nature
The starting point of this route is the village of Schiermonnikoog. From here you can walk through the center to the dunes and the beautiful nature of the island. In the center you will find several statues and historic houses. The old, calcareous dunes outside the village were created in the period between 1450 and 1850. Since then, nature on Schiermonnikoog has had plenty of opportunity to expand further. Take a good look around you while walking to see special plant species in the humid dune valleys. There are also bunnies hopping around here.

Nice and calm
This Wadden Island was formed after the flood of 1287. Before that, Schiermonnikoog was part of the mainland and it was part of Friesland. With only 950 inhabitants, this island is definitely cozy. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you are in the right place here. Come here to clear your head.
