If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, why not go to Ameland? The Wadden Island has everything to make you forget the daily grind. Pure sea air, panoramic views and beautiful nature. The island has four villages, each with a pleasant character and cozy shops. There are plenty of fun activities to do, whether you take a boat trip, join an excursion or visit a museum. And of course the island is ideal for this walk, which we have set out especially for you.
From the parking lot you can see the red and white striped Bornrif lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1880, when King William III ordered it. The tower designed by Quirinus Harder was opened in 1881. In the tower you can see exhibitions by artists and at the top of the tower there is a study room as it used to be used by the lighthouse keeper. With a height of 55 meters and 236 steps, it is quite a climb, but definitely worth it!
We also take you to the Cultural-Historical Museum Sorgdrager. The culture, history and customs of Ameland are brought together here. With a podcatcher you can listen to the stories and backgrounds of certain objects. This means you are free to dwell on the exhibited objects for as long or as short a time as you like.
Close to the museum in Hollum is the De Wachting mill. This octagonal rack mill is used as a flour mill. With 1991 as the year of construction, this mill is still very young. The year is printed on the fuselage. On the spot where this mill was built, another mill stood from 1840 to 1949, and in this way De Wachting restores the old appearance of a pumping station on this site.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
