Description

Cross the border and discover some nice sights on Belgian territory, while you also discover the rich cultural history in the border region on your own soil. The base of this cycling tour is Hoeve De Witte Olifant Noorbeek, where you can rent cozy houses and come home after your tour and relax in the leafy surroundings. Route 183718 also starts and ends here, so you can make two beautiful bike rides with an overnight stay and really enjoy a weekend getaway. Hoeve de Witte Olifant Noorbeek is an official free charging point with picnic area.

Along the way you will pass the farm of the same name in Libeek, the oldest parts of which also date from the thirteenth century. There used to be a knightly house on this site, but after the castle changed owners in the sixteenth century, the fortress was gradually converted into a tenant farm. Libeek has the largest farm in Limburg, which surrounds a square courtyard and the house, which is built of marlstone, was built and improved in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The Meschermolen is also beautiful. The upper water mill from 1699 was used as a flour mill and it is the first water mill on the Voer stream. The mill served for centuries and was only closed down in the early 1950s. The mill was then no longer needed, because an electric hammer mill was installed in the village. The mill was restored between 1996 and 1998 and made suitable for grinding again. The mill can be visited by appointment.

Another water mill is the Breustermolen, which is also called the Richelle Mill. This mill, which was built in the wing of a farm, also milled on the Voer. The first mention of this water mill dates back to 1221, when it was used as a ban mill for the manor of Breust. In 1791 a major renovation took place, in which the mill owes its facade stone with that date.

Eijsden Castle, the next attraction, is among the top Dutch UNESCO Monuments. The historic castle consists of two right-angled wings connected by a corner tower. There is a gatehouse with a courtyard and a park that is freely accessible.

And while you're in the area, you can learn something about the history of the area and antiquity at the Musée de la Montagne Saint Pièrre. The Musée du Silex, located in the cellars of the Eben-Ezer tower, will teach you more about the interesting flint.
